Fairfolk have been selected to appear on a CD of House Guests who have performed at Winchester Folk Club. It is for the Naomi House Charity. £5, a great Christmas present. Recorded by local Hampshire artists who have performed at the WFC, the CD is being launched at the Hyde Tavern in Winchester, on Wednesday, 12 November......we will be there, performing and the CD will be sent to Radio 2 and other media. On the CD we perform, " She Moved Through The Fair", a beautiful rendition of a classic Irish song. See any of us to buy the CD!
At the OctoberFest held at Basingstoke's cricket club this year Fairfolk
played out the festival on Sunday afternoon on the main stage. The festival
attended by 7000 people was a big success. The funfair, go-kart track, petting
zoo, and food stalls make this a family friendly festival.
The harmonies between Laura Wilcock and Jo Burgess-England were
beautifully complementary, Phil Howe's guitar and Irish bouzouki as ever
intricate and delicate and supported by John McGarvey on double bass and
Nigel Rivers on mandolin and flute.
A new number on the set list was the medieval, "Salva Nos", (latin, Save Us),
an ancient chant given sensitive treatment by the band, with occasional Ska rhythms.
"Sally Free and Easy", and "The Prickle Eyed Bush" were well received,
as was the final song, a moral tale about binge drinking girls from the Isle of Wight
who didn't last long as maidens.
The OctoberFest certainly had greater numbers attending this year, and we hope
Fairfolk contributed to the friendly family atmosphere.
We have applied to the Basingstoke Festival to have an event at The Bounty with The Clearing, Sunday 21st June afternoon/evening.
